There’s also more RAM (even more in the Plus model), more storage and you can expand that by up to 1TB using a microSD card. It has a higher resolution of 1280×800, but we wish the screen had been upgraded for this new model – it’s not even full HD.Ĭameras are the same on both tablets, but processing power is a little better which means it’s not quite a sluggish. Its screen may be only one inch larger than the Fire 7, but it makes quite the difference. The Fire HD 8 is now on its 12th generation. The cameras are poor, but that is a trait of all Amazon Fire tablets, sadly. Even the $59/£59 version comes with the Amazon Kids app that offers great parental controls and there are dozens of free games available in the Appstore that kids will love. Remember that you don’t necessarily have to buy the Fire 7 Kids Edition. The Fire 7 has hands-free Alexa like its more expensive siblings, which is nice, and this new model has a USB-C charging port that’s much easier to use than the annoying old microUSB. The screen has good colours and good-enough viewing angles, but the low resolution of 1024×600 means it’s not as sharp as the HD 8. Basically, it’s the best option for kids because they are unlikely to complain about it… unless you’re buying it to replace a broken iPad, which won’t go down well. Obviously, you shouldn’t expect a lightning-fast tablet for this price and you’ll have to put up with waiting a little longer for apps to load than you’d expect. The reason you may want to steer clear is because saying that it isn’t hugely powerful is an understatement. It’s great value, despite the price increase for this new model as it has better battery life (10 hours) and a more convenient USB-C charging port. It hasn't actually jumped back up to full price since March 2022, but we'll see whether it ends up reaching a new low when October comes around. The Fire 7 is the smallest in the range with, as you’d guess, a 7in screen. That said, the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus is already down to the same price it was during July's Prime Day, meaning it's perhaps less of a deal and more of a makeshift price change. If you're in the market for an Android tablet, you'll naturally want to watch out for Samsung tab deals. Both ended up half price last time around, dipping to $74.99 and $54.99 respectively. It's safe to say it'll probably receive a similar discount during the next Prime event, but you'll also want to watch out for Fire HD 10 and 8 price cuts too. On the Kindle side of things, Amazon slashed its new Fire Max 11 tablet by $80. If you'd rather keep up to date, the 10th gen version also dropped in price by $50 - slightly smaller discount, but still pretty handy if you're needing a new tablet to go with your iPhone 14 Plus (or iPhone 15 if you've got one already). The 10.2 inch device dropped from $329 to $249.99 during the summer sale, which is impressive given its armed with an A13 bionic chip and is still widely supported. Of course, some of the best tablet deals apply to slightly older models, like the 9th gen Apple iPad. Even the newest iPads and Kindles weren't immune to price cuts, so you could end up with a newer device for less than you'd expect. July's Prime Day festivities featured some substantial discounts across various tablets, and we suspect similar deals will pop up during Amazon's October event. Lenovo - Bag 28% off the 8-inch Tab M8 (4th gen)īest early Prime Day tablet deals in the US.Fire Max - Back to full price following a 35% Prime Day deal.Fire HD - Up to 50% off Amazon's range of tablets.Samsung - Grab over 30% off a range of Galaxy tabs.Apple - $100 off a 5th generation iPad Air.With that in mind, let's take a peek at discounts available right now, Best tablet deals ahead of Prime Day That said, Kindles in particular usually drop to their lowest price, which makes sense given that they're an Amazon product. Not all the best tablet deals show up exclusively on Prime Day, and it's always worth browsing for regular offers. July's big event sparked a bunch of decent discounts, so we're pretty confident this secondary event will have something to offer. Whether you're eagerly awaiting Prime Day Kindle deals or itching to seek out the best Prime Day iPad deal, the sale event should slash money off both platforms. If you missed all the biggest Prime Day gaming deals the first time around, you're likely delighted that another sale is on the way. We're always on the hunt for great tech savings, but we're already taking a look at what to expect from the retailer's 'big deal' days. That means you've got another chance to grab a Kindle, iPad, or Android tablet for less, and there's bound to be offers across a variety of price points. Prime Day tablet deals are set to return this later this month, as Amazon is holding a 'Big Deal Days' event.
